WHO IT'S FOR

Who should
apply.

The PVM Scholars Program is open to undergraduate students enrolled at 1890 land-grant institutions who are interested in pursuing veterinary medicine or a related career path. You do not need to have everything figured out to apply.

Strong candidates typically:

  • 01Are enrolled in or planning to complete pre-vet prerequisite coursework
  • 02Have an interest in veterinary medicine, animal science, or a related field
  • 03Are willing to participate in program activities and meet program expectations
  • 04Are looking for guidance, community, and structured support

Students at any stage of their undergraduate journey are encouraged to apply. Earlier is better, but it is never too late to get involved.

HOW TO APPLY

Joining is
straightforward.

Check eligibility

Confirm that you are enrolled at a participating 1890 institution and meet any basic eligibility requirements outlined by your institution's program coordinator.

Complete the application

Submit the PVM Scholars Program application. The application will ask about your academic background, your interest in veterinary medicine, and your goals.

Connect with your coordinator

Each 1890 institution has a designated program contact. Reach out to them with any questions about the process or what to expect.

Participate and engage

Once accepted, show up. Attend program activities, connect with your mentor, and take advantage of every resource available to you.

Your institutional academic advisor is your primary point of contact for specific expectations, deadlines, and requirements. The 1890 PVM Scholars Program Coordinator is here to help!

The program invests in you, and we ask that you show up and engage in return. Expectations vary slightly by institution, but participants are generally expected to:

  • 01Maintain satisfactory academic standing at their institution
  • 02Participate in scheduled program activities, workshops, and events
  • 03Submit required semester updates and experience documentation
  • 04Communicate proactively with their program coordinator or mentor
  • 05Represent the program and the 1890 community with professionalism

Alabama A&M University

ANIMAL SCIENCE AND PRE-VET

Alabama A&M University, an 1890 land-grant institution founded in 1875, doesn't operate its own veterinary school. Instead it serves as one of Tuskegee University's formal pre-vet pipeline partners, preparing students through its Animal Bio-Health Sciences program for admission into the region's veterinary colleges.

Program highlights
  • 01Formal articulation agreement with Tuskegee's College of Veterinary Medicine (TUCVM)
  • 02Animal Bio-Health Sciences major built around pre-vet coursework and eligible for the 1890 Agricultural Scholarship
  • 03Eligible students can enter TUCVM's DVM program after 3 years of undergraduate study via SOAR/PVMS
  • 04Students gain hands-on lab experience through Tuskegee's Annual Veterinary Medicine Symposium
