# Vet Tech Programs

Two 1890 land-grant universities, Fort Valley State University in Georgia and Florida A&M University in Florida, are among the 23 institutions nationwide that offer a four-year bachelor's degree in veterinary technology. Both are AVMA-accredited and prepare graduates for national certification.

Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Technology

Fort Valley State University has the only AVMA-accredited four-year veterinary technology program in the state of Georgia. Initially accredited in November 1978, the program has been preparing veterinary technicians for nearly five decades. Students complete the core curriculum designed for all bachelor's degrees alongside professional courses in veterinary science, building a broad-based scientific foundation alongside hands-on veterinary training.

Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Technology

Florida A&M University's veterinary technology program received initial accreditation in October 2013 and stands apart for its distinctive emphasis on regulatory education. In years three and four, students apply veterinary concepts at the FAMU Animal Complex in Quincy, Florida, under the guidance of FAMU's licensed veterinarians and veterinary technologists. The program emphasizes small animal, large animal, food animal, and regulatory medicine.
